Qualifications in Wales
One of our key activities as the independent regulator of qualifications in Wales is to oversee the awarding of GCSE, AS and A levels, vocational qualifications and the Welsh Baccalaureate.
Pre-16 qualifications
General qualifications cover the more traditional subjects, such as Cymraeg, English and mathematics. There are three different types of vocational qualifications available in Wales, which cover Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 of the Credit and Qualifications Framework.
Post-16 qualifications
Vocational qualifications have a more practical, work-related focus. At schools and colleges in Wales, vocational qualifications are available from Entry Level to Level 6 of the Credit and Qualifications Framework.
Reforming qualifications
There is a multitude of skills qualifications available for schools and college learners. These are available from Entry Level to Level 3 of the Credit and Qualifications Framework and help prepare young people to progress into further learning and work.
